It's been a week now, and I believe that's more than long enough for me to try another beer! Today's beer is a European strong lager by Grupo Cervezas Alhambra, SL (so this is a Spanish lager, if you didn't catch that!). I've had this one sitting around for a week or two now so figured it was time I cracked this sucker open and let you guys know what I thought of it!
Opening her up, you definitely get the impression right off the bat that this is indeed a lager. There's a malty, earthy smell to it which I always associate with being a "lagery" smell. There's also a slight hint of sweetness in there which is definitely welcome for me.
On the pour, I got a nice inch or so thick head which did a nice job of sticking around for a little while, leaving a little lacing as it faded. The beer itself is a nice golden/bronze colour, just the sort of colour you should expect from a strong lager, really.
The mouth feel of this one is a decent but not overpowering carbonation (I've had some lagers which were fizzier than coca-cola and that is pretty bad in my opinion). It has a nice malty taste and that hint of sweetness from the smell comes through as well as a slight grassy/hay flavour - in a good way! Definitely wouldn't be able to tell you that this was 6.4% ABV, it tastes like a weaker lager, and again, I don't mean that as a bad thing, I mean it makes the beer all that more drinkable. I could see this being an ideal beer to keep around if you get thirsty and that thirst is for a refreshing lager. We have a nice overall Beer Advocate score of 77 which I think is reasonable in this case.
If you happen across this one, give it a try if you're into your lagers, you just might like it!

Until next time, happy drinking!
