So, for my first food review, I figured, "Hey, it's October, the spookiest month of the year, why not do something Halloween related?" So that's what I'm doing right now. As you can see, these are sure to be the cutest spooky cakes you've ever seen in your life, judging from the happy trick or treating Haribo bear on the package there! You get six of these for about £1 and I'm here to discover whether that's value for your money or if they truly are a Halloween horror.
So without further ado, let's tear the package open and see what lurks within!

Ah. I see. That's a little disappointing, I have to say. Oh well, I picked the most unique looking cake in that it has a skeleton shaped sweetie on the top! Now, let it be said, that I'm not the biggest fan of Haribo sweets, but I'll try my best to be objective here.
First things first, the gummy was exactly what you'd expect from Haribo - extremely chewy and tough, like it's trying it's best to not get eaten. Nothing too special, it's a gummy sweet, strawberry flavour or something (hard to tell with these things).
Now, on to the cake, and icing. Here's where the whole thing falls apart if you were still liking the sound of these. The sponge is very dry and crumbly, doesn't taste of much beyond bland, ordinary cake. The icing itself is overly sweet, as if trying to make up for the disappointing sponge. There was some synthetic tasting flavour there but I couldn't tell what it was supposed to be, if anything.
So in conclusion, I'm sad but not surprised to report that these things are naff. They only cost £1 for six of the buggers but at that price if you want to get a treat for yourself or your kids and they like Haribo, just go out and buy a bloody bag of Haribo and save yourself the disappointment.
